Best ski resorts by train

Switzerland still has ski villages where the station is the village. Engelberg, Wengen, Zermatt, Arosa and Davos are the textbook cases. Skiboard’s train ranking multiplies road time by a rail penalty until live SBB journeys exist — use the official timetable for the last connection.

What “train-first” means

It is not enough that a village has a station. The last 400 metres should be a gondola, funicular or a bus that matches the ski day, not a taxi queue at 8:40. Car-free Zermatt and Wengen pass; a valley station with a packed P+R on Saturday does not.
