Snow’n’Rail: the ski areas, how it works, and when it pays
Snow’n’Rail is SBB RailAway’s train and ski pass offer: one online booking for the journey there and back and a ski pass, each at a discount. SBB sells it as 28 offers covering 40 of the ski areas Skiboard lists, from Pizol and Stoos to the Jungfrau region and the 4 Vallées. On 29 Oct 2026, one was on sale: Engelberg-Titlis. Skiboard reads every offer page each morning, and each area’s page says whether its offer is on sale.
Snow’n’Rail offers and the areas they cover

How it works
You book on the SBB RailAway site, in one go: the ski pass and a public transport ticket from your station to the resort and back. Each offer sets its own discounts. At Engelberg-Titlis this winter it is 20% off the one-, two- or six-day pass and up to 30% off the journey. The discount holds only if you travel there by public transport, and the discounted train tickets are sold only online: not at the counter, and not in the SBB Mobile app (a phone’s browser works).
The train discount is rationed. Each month SBB sells a set number of tickets at the full discount; once they are gone the discount steps down, and when every step is used up there is none. Engelberg-Titlis’s page shows the level month by month: 30% in November and December, 50% in January and February. The earlier in the month you book, the more of it is left.
The ski pass goes onto your SwissPass card, not the digital SwissPass in the app, and works five minutes after the booking is confirmed. The train tickets are valid from seven days before to seven days after your ski day.
With a GA, a Half Fare card or children
With a GA travelcard you book the ski pass alone: the GA covers the journey, so you get the discount on the pass but not the one on the train. A Half Fare Travelcard PLUS credit cannot pay for a RailAway offer. Children travel on a Junior Travelcard or a Children’s Co-Travelcard, which you enter as a discount card when you book.
When it pays, and when the operator’s shop may be cheaper
SBB states the pass discount as a percentage, not as a price. Many areas now sell the day pass online at a price for the date, often lower on a quiet day or when bought early (see the guide to dynamic ski pass prices). So compare before you book: each area’s page on Skiboard shows the operator’s own price for the weekend next to its Snow’n’Rail offer, and says whether that offer is on sale.
The train discount counts most on a long journey bought without a GA. With a GA only the pass discount is left, so that is the one to compare with the operator’s price.
When the offers are on sale
On 29 Oct 2026, one of the 28 offers was on sale (Engelberg-Titlis); the other pages said the offer was not available at the moment. Last winter, the Verbier Express and VosAlpes Express offer ran from 14 December 2025 to 19 April 2026. The table’s last column is the figure in the title of each offer page that day: out of season a title keeps last winter’s. In the train ranking, an area whose offer is on sale is marked “Snow’n’Rail”, without changing its place.
Questions
- What is Snow’n’Rail?
- SBB RailAway’s combined offer: a public transport ticket to a ski area and back and a ski pass, booked together online with a discount on both. There are 28 offers, covering 40 Swiss ski areas.
- Which ski areas have Snow’n’Rail?
- SBB lists 28 offers: 4 Vallées, Adelboden-Lenk, Airolo, Aletsch Arena, Andermatt-Sedrun-Disentis, Arosa Lenzerheide, Blatten-Belalp, Braunwald, Brigels, Crans-Montana, Davos Klosters, Engelberg-Titlis, Flumserberg, Jungfrau Ski Region, Klewenalp-Stockhütte, Laax, Lauchernalp, Meiringen-Hasliberg, Melchsee-Frutt, Mythenregion, Pizol, Portes du Soleil, Saas-Grund, San Bernardino, Scuol Motta Naluns, Sörenberg, Stoos and Verbier Express. The table gives every area each one covers.
- Can I use Snow’n’Rail with a GA?
- Yes: you book the ski pass alone and travel on your GA. You get the discount on the pass, not the one on the train.
- Where do I buy Snow’n’Rail?
- Only online, on the SBB RailAway site, also in a phone’s browser; not at the counter and not in the SBB Mobile app. The ski pass is loaded onto your SwissPass card.
- Is Snow’n’Rail cheaper than buying the ski pass online?
- It depends on the area and the day. SBB gives the pass discount as a percentage; an operator selling online may ask less on a quiet day or for an early purchase. Compare with the operator’s price for your day, which each area’s page on Skiboard shows for the weekend.
