The Swiss glacier ski areas and when they open
7 Swiss ski areas say they ski on a glacier this winter. Saas-Fee and Zermatt never really stop: both run summer skiing on the glacier, and Zermatt’s winter season starts on 1 Nov. Diavolezza follows on 24 Oct, Titlis on 29 Oct, Verbier on 31 Oct and Glacier 3000 on 7 Nov. Each row names the glacier as the operator does and links the pages the facts and dates were read on.

How to read the table
The glacier and the top station are what each operator states on its own website; an area is listed only when its operator says its pistes reach a glacier. The dates are the operators’ plans for the whole area, the same as in the guide to this winter’s opening dates: the glacier is usually the first part to run. Each row gives the day both pages were read.
Not listed: Corvatsch, Andermatt’s Gemsstock and Saas-Grund’s Hohsaas, whose operators describe no glacier piste, and the Plaine Morte above Crans-Montana, where the destination lists only a cross-country trail on the glacier.
Glaciers are not guaranteed
A glacier makes an early start likely, not certain: the operators tie every date to the snow, and summer skiing now runs only on the highest glaciers. Off the marked pistes a glacier has crevasses; the Diavolezza descent is a secured route, not a groomed piste. Before you travel, check the operator’s page in the row, or which areas are open this weekend.
