Best ski resorts in Switzerland
There is no single best ski resort in Switzerland. Zermatt wins on glacier height and linked terrain, Verbier on freeride scale, St. Moritz on sunshine and grooming, Engelberg or Flumserberg when the question is a Saturday from the city. This page ranks destination-scale areas using mapped piste length, vertical and access — then sends you to a weekend ranking from your city.
- 01Zermatt206 km · 63 lifts · 3872 mHighest linked skiing in the Alps, car-free village, glacier snow-hold. Slow as a day trip from the Swiss Plateau.
- 02Verbier 4 Vallées170 km · 77 lifts · 3301 m4 Vallées is the size argument: huge vertical and serious off-piste. Better as a Valais weekend than a dawn raid from Zürich.
- 03St. Moritz Corviglia68 km · 49 lifts · 3021 mEngadin light, grooming and a high base. Corviglia is the classic; Corvatsch is the steeper sibling.
- 04Davos Klosters81 km · 39 lifts · 2811 mSeveral mountains, not one circus. Parsenn is the cruising network; the train from Zürich keeps it on city shortlists.
- 05LAAX152 km · 38 lifts · 2974 mPark and piste-scale choice in Graubünden. Glacier height plus a modern lift network. Busy on bluebird days.
- 06Engelberg-Titlis42 km · 30 lifts · 3040 mThe textbook train day from Luzern or Zürich: Titlis glacier, real steep skiing, a village that is a station.
- 07Andermatt-Sedrun70 km · 29 lifts · 2958 mGotthard weather factory, steep terrain, rail village. The “drive over the pass” answer after a dump.
- 08Arosa Lenzerheide164 km · 49 lifts · 2855 mA large linked area with a gentler personality than Verbier. Strong family terrain without giving up a full day of reds.

How this list is built
Skiboard’s catalog is 329 named operating downhill areas that touch Switzerland in OpenSkiMap. “Best” here means destination resorts — roughly 20 km of mapped pistes or a serious lift network — not every village drag lift. Snow depth and ticket prices are sample fixtures on twelve well-known areas until live adapters are on; they are not used as proof of this ranking.
Questions
- What is the best ski resort in Switzerland overall?
- If you mean the largest high-alpine linked area, Zermatt and Verbier 4 Vallées are the usual answers. If you mean the best Saturday from Zürich, Engelberg, Flumserberg or Hoch-Ybrig often win on travel time. Skiboard ranks that second question from your city.
- Does Skiboard sell lift tickets?
- No. Check the operator for tickets and opening status, SBB for the train chain, and the SLF bulletin before any off-piste travel.
