When the Swiss ski areas open in 2026/27
The glaciers go first: Saas-Fee is already partly open (since 3 Oct), Zermatt follows on 14 Oct, Diavolezza on 24 Oct and Titlis on 29 Oct. Most other areas start with weekends or part of the area from mid-November, and nearly all of them run daily by 19 December. 44 of the 52 areas below have announced dates; each row links to the operator’s page it was read on.

How to read the table
“Opens” is the first day the operator plans to run lifts for skiers. That is often only a glacier, a weekend or part of the area; the note under the name says when it runs daily or in full. These are the operators’ plans, read on their own websites (for a few areas the official destination site): every one of them depends on snow, and an early start can slip or come forward. Check the operator before you travel.
Areas that start “as soon as the snow allows”, or that had not published dates when we checked, are listed last. We add their dates when the operators publish them.
When the season ends
Easter is early in 2027, so many smaller areas close on Easter Monday, 29 March, and most large ones on 4 or 11 April. The glaciers and the highest areas run longest: Glacier 3000 until 30 April, Titlis, Diavolezza and the Schilthorn until 2 May.
Not running this winter: Braunwald
Sportbahnen Braunwald stopped its four ski lifts for good from this winter, and the pistes are no longer groomed. The gondola to Grotzenbüel keeps running for sledging, snowshoeing and ski touring (SRF, 26 August 2026).
Once the snow is there
An opening date says the lifts will run, not that the snow is good. Skiboard ranks areas for a weekend from your city by snow measured at nearby SLF stations and the MeteoSwiss forecast; before enough areas have measured snow, it lists them by travel time instead.

- On the glaciers: Saas-Fee, Zermatt, Diavolezza (Wednesdays and weekends) and Titlis, with Verbier (if conditions allow) and Mürren-Schilthorn adding weekends from 31 October. Expect a handful of pistes, not the whole area.
- Are these opening dates guaranteed?
- No. They are what each operator had announced on its website when we checked; each row gives the date it was read. Early starts depend on snow and can move; check the operator’s page, linked in each row, before you go.
